Academic Affiliation: The SSR Medical College is affiliated to the University of Mauritius, which would be the MBBS/ M.D./M.S./BDS degrees awarding institution. The international quality is ensure by an International Advisory Committee (IAC), which visits the college periodically to advice about Academic matters as per international standards. The 3rd International Advisory Committee (IAC) comprising of: 1. Prof. A.P. Mohandas, Director, Shree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology, Trivandrum,India.  4. The Chairman, Medical Council of Mauritius Inspected and approved the SSR Medical College Belle Rive and the existing facilities and clinical material in the collegiate hospitals suitable and sufficient for the clinical training of the students of the SSR Medical College. The IAC in its report deeply appreciated the standard of the MBBS degree, quality of the students admitted, the curriculum scope and depth, the quality of the campus infrastructure, lecture theaters, labs, libraries, electronic resources, clinical facilities and the general management of the College and expressed that the University of Mauritius ‘can be proud to put its imprimatur on the SSR Medical College’s MBBS programme'. The IAC is a permanent revolving body, comprising of the renowned personalities in the field of medical education and periodically and regularly supervises the quality of the education and staff at the SSR Medical College in consonance with the University of Mauritius and the Indian Ocean Medical Institute Trust. Recognition by the Medical Board of California, WHO & ECFMG, USA:                                                                                                               The SSRMC is recognised by: the Medical Board of California  (http://www.mbc.ca.gov/applicant/schools_recognized.) & by the World Health Organisation (WHO) vide letter no. OSD-E3/374/5 dated 12th Dec'03, & the ECFMG of USA for listing in the IMED, which can be viewed through links available on www.ecfmg.org. This recognition enables our students to take the USMLE part I & II in Mauritius itself.  The WHO listing would be viewed on WHO site after its electronic updating in June. Not surprisingly, hundreds of our medical graduates are presently working in most reputed hospitals like Mt Sinai,and Brooklyn Hospital, in USA, in many hospitals in the UK, and in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and France. More than 1500 Indian students graduating from the SSR Medical College are practicing medicine in India in various reputed hospitals across the country. Some of the addresses can be found in our list of Alumni/ Passed out Graduates.   Medical Council Approval :                                                                                                                                       The Medical Council of Mauritius has already approved and recognised the MBBS course of the SSR Medical College. The Syllabus of the SSR Medical College is based on the latest guidelines of the Medical Council of India with additional features like Information Technology from General Medical Council of U.K. The MBBS course, infrastructure and the facilities have been set up keeping in view the requirements of the Medical Councils. The teaching hospitals have sufficient numbers of beds (about 1000) and facilities as per the norms of the MCI. Recognition from the Medical Council of India will be in accordance with the Govt. of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare letter no. V. 11016/15/99-ME (OG) dated 24th March 2000. As per guidelines of the MCI, every students desiring to register and practice in India shall  apply/obtain an eligibility certificate from MCI on payment of required fee of Rs 500/- prior to joining the course. Application Form can be down loaded from the MCI website. Such an Exit Exam is under active consideration of being made mandatory for all the medical graduates, even passing out from medical Colleges in India, as per orders of the Hon Apex Court. The M.C.I. stipulates a screening test for all the overseas medical degree holders, which has been made mandatory as per the new legislation of the Govt. The introduction of such 'eligibility certificate' for admission, which requires 50% marks in PCB and English, and screening test, on the pattern of PLAB in UK and USMLE in US, is a welcome development to ensure quality in medical education and is in consonance with the high standards of admission policy (requiring minimum 60% marks in PCB and English), and training at the college. The College office would advice the selected candidates in obtaining the required 'eligibility certificate' from the MCI. It is a testimony to our quality teaching & training that most of the students of all the 15 batches graduating from the college have already cleared this “Screening Test” in their very first attempt. SSR Medical College is the only college to post almost 100% success rate in the very first attempt at this Screening Test held by the “National Board of Examination, Govt. of India. About more than 1600 of our medical graduates are already practicing medicine in India and various advanced countries across the world (list on our website).   Internship& P.G.:                                                                                                                                                  The Indian Students undertake the internship at various hospitals of their choice in India. Our students are doing internship in various hospitals in India such as: Safdarjung Hospital , New Delhi, Ram Manohar Lohia,Delhi,  St. Stephens,Delhi, ESI, Basaidarapur,Delhi, Sir Gangaram Hospital,Delhi, Deen Dayal Upadhayay,Delhi, KEM, Mumbai, Govt. SHMS Hospital Srinagar, Civil Hospital,Sector-16,Chandgarh, Civil Hospital,Sector-32,Chandigarh, Govt. Medical College & Rajendera Hospital,Patiala, Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner. One of the associate institutions of the IOMIT's SSR Medical College exempted U/s 80 G (5)(VI) of the Income Tax Act 1961, is planning a 500 beds hospital in India, which would provide opportunity for priority placements for internship and post graduation for the students of the SSR Medical College. The facility is proposed to be functional by year 2025. Internship options have also been agreed ‘in principle’ at a 700 beds hospital in Delhi and would be available to our graduates on merit basis, subject to local regulations. The process for starting the PG courses in selected specialties has already been initiated with the Govt approvals already in place and some PG Courses are expected to start at the college this year. Faculty and Staff:                                                                                                                                                       The management of the SSR Medical College is fully aware of the challenges as well as opportunities of opening the first medical college in Mauritius. As such, the Chairman has laid down a policy of taking only the young, energetic and the best faculty with international exposure and profound academic experience. The 1st Principal of the SSR Medical College is Dr.S.Shukla, who has teaching experience of more than 30 years and before taking up the assignment was the Addl. Principal of the Govt. Medical College, Kota, Rajasthan. The faculty of the college has been selected from teachers graduated and teaching exposure at the most reputed institutions like Oxford, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, PGIs, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, JIPMER, Pondicherry, St. John's Medical College, Bangalore, University of Hong Kong and other reputed institutions. It speaks of the promise and prestige of the S.S.R. Medical College that the reputed faculty from such institutions have applied and opted to work with us.   In most of the countries, the graduates with foreign medical degrees have to pass an examination before registration. The success rate of our graduates has been almost 100% all across the globe. Recognition from the Medical and Dental Professional Board / Health Professions Council of South Africa will be in accordance with their letter no. 2/14/18 Mr. L.A.Henderson X232/ mmt dated 11th October, 99 & in term of "Department of Health-Policy on Recruitment, employment and support of Foreign Health Professionals in the Republic of South Africa - Internship Para 5.6.1.4", which provides for internship allocation to 'Final-year medical students from SADC countries which do not have accredited academic facilities, e.g Lesotho, Swaziland, Mauritius, Botswana, etc. Countries of origin should consent. Each case will be considered on merit.'. The approval from the Royal Medical Council of Nepal and the Malaysian Medical Council is also in process.
